Hi Mary,

I quite agree - it seems like after holding its breath for a long time during the campaign, the world is now holding its breath once again before Obama takes office. Let's hope he is able to put into action all he has talked of, and doesn't get squashed by the weight of the world.

Hi Matthew,
I found Alice Walker's letter incredibly moving and inspiring and have shared it with friends all over the world. Her advice is good for all of us. I work as an NGO representative at the UN, mostly on women's and girls' issues. Barack Obama's election has renewed my hope and I pray that Alice Walker's words will come true.

"There must be no more crushing of whole communities, no more torture, no more dehumanizing as a means of ruling a people’s spirit. This has already happened to people of color, poor people, women, children. We see where this leads, where it has led."
